What numerology is — and what it isn't

Numerology is the habit of giving numbers a character, then watching a life through that character. It is old, various, and stubbornly unprovable in the way poetry is unprovable. That is not an insult. It is a category.

A language, not a lab

Pythagorean practice usually reduces the birth date to a Life Path, and the name to Expression, Soul Urge, Personality. Chaldean practice uses a different alphabet map and lingers on compound numbers. They do not agree because they are not measuring the same object with the same ruler. They are staging different plays.

None of this has the standing of a replicated experiment. Traditional interpretations say a number describes temperament, timing, or the flavour of a name. Evidence does not demonstrate that a digit causes a career, a marriage, or a crisis. Correlation stories are easy to tell after the fact. That is a feature of narrative, not of physics.

Treat a number as a lens. Put it down if the lens starts giving orders.
