Why Am I Becoming More Spiritual During a Difficult Period?

The ninth and twelfth get loud when the tenth hurts. Growth, or a halo on suffering.

The difficult year grew a practice. A Name, a walk, a teacher, a sudden interest in the unseen. People around you may find it beautiful. You may find it suspicious. Both can be true: a real turn toward meaning, and a halo placed on pain so the pain looks like a promotion.

What the sky is often doing

Jupiter wants meaning. Ketu unhooks. Saturn makes the unhooking a labour. The eighth is crisis and the unmaking of a form; the ninth is dharma; the twelfth is the cell, sleep, the far room. Practitioners often read these weathers, or a dasha of Jupiter-Ketu-Saturn, as periods when the inner life gets louder. Traditional notes mention moksha, teachers, pilgrimage. They do not mention that suffering is not automatically a spiritual credential.

A practice born in a hard year can be genuine. So can a costume that keeps you from asking for ordinary help.

If the difficulty is medical, legal, or unsafe, spirituality is not the substitute. If the difficulty is a season and a bead or a walk is keeping you kind, keep it — and keep the body in the room. Mantra as a traditional practice has a place on the solutions shelf. It is not a guaranteed planetary fix. Romanticising the hard year into a saint's biography is how people skip the Tuesday.
