Does Rahu Really Mean Foreign Settlement?

Rahu is hungry for the unprecedented. A passport is one costume that hunger wears. It is not a visa officer.

Rahu has been blamed for enough international travel to qualify for frequent-flyer status. The rumour is sticky because it is not invented from nothing. Traditional notes do link Rahu with the foreign, the unconventional, the outsider, the smoke at the edge of the inherited map. Association is not a boarding pass.

Why the association exists is worth taking seriously. Rahu is appetite for what the script did not include. Crossing a boundary — a country, a caste of work, a name, a technology, a scene your family cannot pronounce — is one of the ways that appetite becomes visible. Unusual environments. Outsider status even at home. Unconventional paths that look like luck from a distance and like hunger up close. Practitioners are not being foolish when they mention the ninth, the twelfth, the D-4, a Rahu dasha, when the question is elsewhere. They are naming a climate in which elsewhere is interesting.

Why the climate is not a ticket

Settlement abroad requires a body, papers, money, a language, a decade, and usually a dasha that can hold a move rather than a mood. An empty twelfth with a quiet Rahu and a job offer has relocated more people than a loud Rahu with no lordship support and a Pinterest board. Timing matters. So does the rest of the chart: the tenth that can hold work in another country, the seventh that can hold a partner who will go, the lagna that can survive the unhooking from the old postcode. CapSage will not sell a Canada reading from a node.

Elsewhere is a direction. It is not always a border. Plenty of people with loud Rahu never leave the postcode and still live as foreigners in their own kitchen.

If you want to go, go as a person with a plan a human can execute. If you want to be unprecedented at home, that is also Rahu, and the through-the-houses series is a better map than an airport rumour. The shorter question in this archive answers no. This page is the longer no: the association is real; the settlement is a much larger sentence.

Readers exploring this theme may also find these interesting. Similar weather across traditions is not proof that one system explains another.

Myth: Rahu Means You'll Live Abroad

Rahu means the unprecedented. Abroad is one costume. So is a new craft, a new name, a new hunger in the old postcode.

No. Rahu means hunger for the unprecedented. A passport is only one of the costumes that hunger wears.
