Why Compound Numbers Matter

Reduction is a convenience. It is also an erasure. Chaldean practice, at its most characteristic, reads 16 as 16 — collapse and rebuilding — not merely as 7, inquiry. The 7 is the aftertaste. The 16 is the scene.

How to read a total

Add the letters of the name by your table. Look at the two-digit sum before you reduce. Traditional interpretations attach a miniature drama to each compound. Some of those dramas are useful as metaphor (16 and pride, 15 and persuasion). Some are period superstition (accidents, doom) and should be retired.
