Number 8 is not unlucky. It is unpopular with people who wanted a shortcut.
The slogan
Depending on the shop, 8 is fortune (homophone cultures), or a Saturnian burden (Western pop numerology), or a sound to avoid in a lift. The symbol cannot hold all of these at once. That is your first clue that you are in folklore, not in a laboratory.
The more nuanced weather
In the 1–9 series, 8 is power, systems, the bill attached to ambition. Traditional interpreters mention karma as consequence, not as cartoon. CapSage will mention Saturn as a thematic neighbour and refuse the translation.
Unlucky is a story we tell when we do not want to be in charge of the ledger.
