Janma Nakshatra and the Moon

Janma nakshatra is a name for a fact: the lunar mansion occupied by the Moon at birth. In a tradition that times life from the Moon, that fact is load-bearing. Vimshottari’s entire 120-year sequence is keyed to it. Several matching methods weigh it. Lunar results tables in the older books often speak mansion by mansion as well as sign by sign.

It is still the Moon. Sign, house, aspects, and the Moon’s own dignity do not retire because the mansion has a famous name.

The janma nakshatra is the Moon’s address at a finer scale. It is not a second Moon.

Why the birth Moon is the timing seed

Vimshottari assigns each nakshatra to a planetary lord and runs those lords in a fixed order for fixed years. The lord of the natal Moon’s mansion is the first mahadasha. The Moon’s daily motion is fast enough that a wrong birth day would scramble the mansion, but a wrong hour often will not — unless the Moon is near a nakshatra boundary. Matching without making a verdict of it

Ashtakuta and related methods score two janma nakshatras among other factors. Even inside those systems, nakshatra agreement is one column. It is not a marriage licence and not a ban. How to use it without inflating it

Record the Moon’s sign, nakshatra, pada, and the remaining opening dasha. Then read the Moon as a planet: house, lordship, aspects, condition. If the mansion’s traditional deity or symbol clarifies a theme already present, use it. If it contradicts everything else, do not let the keyword win.
