Can Science Explain Why Repetition Feels Calming?

Partly. Rhythm, breath, prediction. Not the whole of prayer. Do not make a lab into a church, or a church into a lab.

Paced breathing can shift autonomic state. Predictable rhythm reduces some kinds of uncertainty. Vocalisation vagally stimulates, in the current popular telling. These are interesting mechanisms. They do not exhaust why a person weeps in dhikr or sits through a mala for a dead parent.

CapSage will cite 'what we know and what we don't' without turning either into a sales deck. If science later explains more, good. If it never explains devotion, also good. Not all true things are laboratory-shaped.

A mechanism can be real and still be smaller than the meaning.

Use the calming if it is calming. Do not bully a believer with a brainstem, or a sceptic with a saint.
