Why Humans Chant
Because a repeating sound is one of the oldest ways to keep a mind from flying apart.

Why we chant · 1 of 6

People return to a word, a Name, a verse, a breath-sound, in every climate we have records for. They do not always call it chanting. They call it prayer, japa, dhikr, simran, recitation, a hymn that has worn a groove. CapSage calls the family of gestures Chantism — not a new religion. A lens on a human habit.
Not a brand
This feature does not own mantra, does not appoint a guru, and does not sell a lineage. Hindu japa, Islamic dhikr, Sikh simran, Christian repetitive prayer, Buddhist recitation — these are living traditions with theologies that do not collapse into one smoothie. We will name origins. We will not flatten them into 'energy'.
What they share, at the level of action, is return. The mouth, the breath, the hand on a bead, the same phrase. Attention scatters; the phrase fetches it. That fetch is the practice. The metaphysics vary. The scatter is painfully ordinary.
Chanting is not a personality. It is a way of coming back.
How to enter this library
Start with attention and 108 if you want mechanics. Start with a tradition you already inhabit if you have one. If you have none, the breath in the Body room is enough. You do not need a new Name from a website. You need a thread you can hold without theatre.

What Is a Mantra?
A phrase designed to be returned to. In living traditions it is also a relationship, not a gadget.
