Personal Names and Numerical Symbolism

Before it is a total, a personal name is how you are called across a room. That call can be tender or careless. Numerology arrives late, offering to decode what your people already encoded without a table.

Traditional interpretations say the name number is the clothes the soul wears in public. A pretty metaphor. Also: clothes are chosen by parents, clerks, and sometimes by you at twenty-four in a different country.

Let the name be loved before it is counted.

If you count it, count the name you actually inhabit. Then read the compound as a character sketch you are free to argue with. The Name as spiritual practice — japa, simran, dhikr — is a different room of this house. Do not collapse a legal name into a mantra unless it already is one.
