Mercury Is Not Just Intelligence

Mercury is hired as intelligence and then asked to sit an exam it did not write. Budha is quicker and less solemn than that. Curiosity. Language. Commerce. Mimicry. Adaptation. Calculation. Nervous activity — the mind as a market that never quite shuts. Being mentally quick is not identical to being wise. Wisdom often needs a slower planet in the room.

A strong Mercury can talk you into a true sentence and out of one. It can copy a style before it has a self. It can make a living from words, numbers, routes, jokes. It can also loop: the overthink, the tab that will not close, the argument that continues after the other person has gone to bed. Traditional notes already know Mercury as a significator of speech and trade and as a planet that takes the colour of whoever it sits with.

Traffic is not wisdom

Combust, retrograde, with the Moon — different weathers of the same quickness. A Mercury that sits with a louder planet will often take that planet’s colour and then sell it as a thought. Mimicry is a craft until it is a missing self. Calculation is a gift until the week becomes a spreadsheet that will not close. Nervous activity is not a character flaw. It is a significator doing overtime. Wisdom, when it arrives, usually borrows a slower planet — Saturn’s attendance, the Moon’s rest, a night that is allowed to be a night. Budha does not have to become that slower planet. It has to let one into the room.

A fast mind is a craft. As a religion it never clocks off. Intelligence that cannot stop is just a market with the lights still on.

If every decision becomes a committee, that situation has a page. Budha as craft is the portrait. Mercury retrograde without blaming the wifi is the practical door. Then let one slower thing finish a sentence — Saturn, a walk, a night. Quickness is allowed. It is not the whole of a mind. The chart may describe the traffic. It does not have to drive.
