The Chart of the Guru: Can Astrology Identify a Spiritual Teacher?

People want the sky to certify a teacher. A ninth-house Jupiter, a Ketu that looks like unhooking, a fifth that looks like mantra, a twelfth that looks like a cell. Combinations exist in the literature. Combinations do not issue halos.

Within Jyotish, spiritual inclination is often sketched through Guru, the dharma houses, moksha houses, the Moon's peace or unrest, and — in Jaimini conversations — the atmakaraka as a significator of the soul's appetite. Teaching ability is a different climate: Mercury, the second and third, a tenth that can hold a public. Charisma is another: Sun, Rahu, a bright eleventh. Institution-building is yet another: Saturn, the tenth, the capacity to make a durable room. Ethical character is not a yoga. It is a life.

A chart can describe a talent for gathering a room. It cannot certify that the room should be gathered.
