When Yogas Cancel, Compete, or Change Shape
Neecha bhanga, interrupting aspects, and rival combinations are ordinary. A brochure yoga is rare; a mixed page is the usual document.

Classical notes on cancellation exist because the old books already knew a combination could fail to behave like its description. Neecha bhanga — relief of debilitation under named conditions — is the famous case. It is not the only one. A yoga can be interrupted by a malefic aspect, crowded by a second combination that wants the same houses for a different job, or timed so that its lords never run together. The chart is allowed to be mixed. Interpretation that cannot bear mixture will fake a clean story.
Cancellation is modification
Neecha bhanga is often sold as a reversal: the debilitated planet is “cured” and may even give raja-yoga results. That is a later inflation. The more careful reading is that specified conditions — the depositor strong and in a kendra, the exaltation lord similarly placed, and related notes depending on the school — change how the debilitation behaves. The planet may be able to function. It may still show the original awkwardness in another register. Cancellation is a complication. It is not an eraser, and it is not a coronation.
Exalted vs Debilitated Planets is the dignity base. Do not skip it in order to reach the more glamorous cancellation paragraph.
Competing yogas
A kendra–trikona join on the tenth and a dusthana cluster on the fourth can look like work that cannot rest. A dhana combination and a strong twelfth can look like money that does not stay. These are not errors. They are two clauses. CapSage prefers to show the tension rather than pick a winner so the paragraph sounds decisive. When a “Good” Yoga Doesn’t Feel Good is the lived version of this problem.
Weak formation
Some combinations are only combinations if you squint: an aspect that is not quite mutual, a lord that is only “in a kendra” by a house system the birth time cannot support, a yoga that exists in D9 while D1 is silent and the hour is approximate. Weak formation should be labelled weak. It should not be upgraded because the name is famous.
How to write the mixed page
Name the combination. Name the interruption or rival. Say which is running in dasha if you know. Keep the language of both. If you cannot honestly say which will dominate, say that. A careful “both are present” is better work than a slogan that picked a side in order to sound like an astrologer.

What Makes a Yoga Operational
Formation is the first fact. Strength, house involvement, support, and timing decide whether a named combination actually works in a life.
