Transit to a Natal Planet, Transit Through a House

Gochara is the current sky read against a natal chart. Two contacts get mixed constantly. One: a transiting planet joins or aspects a natal planet by degree or by sign. Two: a transiting planet occupies a natal house. Saturn on the natal Moon is a planet-to-planet event. Saturn in the natal tenth is a planet-through-house event. Both can be true in the same month. They are still different sentences.

Contact with a natal planet

When a transiting graha occupies the same sign as a natal graha, or aspects it by the rules of the school you are using, the natal planet’s topics may be stimulated. Transit-to-Moon often shows as mood, body-habit, mother-matters, or public lunar weather. Transit-to-Sun often shows as vitality, father, or visibility. The natal planet’s house and lordship still decide which area of life is being touched. A transit to natal Venus in the sixth is not a transit to natal Venus in the seventh.

Degree-exact contacts are louder in some methods; sign-level contacts are the whole-sign default. Say which you are using. Do not slide from a sign transit to a “this Tuesday at 4 p.m.” claim without an orb you can defend.

Aspect as a third contact

Saturn’s traditional special aspects (third, seventh, tenth from itself, in the usual Parashara teaching) mean a Saturn transit can press a natal house it does not occupy. Jupiter’s fifth and ninth, Mars’s fourth and eighth, work the same way. An aspect-transit is still gochara. It is not an occupation. Saying “Saturn is in your tenth” when Saturn is aspecting the tenth from the fourth is a category error. Name occupation and aspect separately. Duration still applies: Saturn’s aspect on a house lasts as long as Saturn stays in the sign from which it glances.

Occupation of a natal house

A slow planet spending two and a half years in a house describes a long emphasis on that house’s topics. Saturn through the fourth can coincide with pressure on home, mother, or the base of operations. Jupiter through the tenth can coincide with extra room in vocation — or extra of a vocational problem. House transits require a lagna. If the birth time cannot support the houses, you should not be narrating house transits as fact. You may still discuss transits to natal planets whose signs you know.

When both happen at once

Saturn transiting the tenth and conjunct natal Mercury in the tenth is a stacked contact: house emphasis plus a natal planet. Stacks are more interesting than isolated transits. They are still not an event-machine. Why One Transit Cannot Carry an Event is the limit. Saturn Transits and Sade Sati is the long Saturn case, which is mostly a house-from-Moon construction, not a natal-planet conjunction.

Name the contact. Name the natal object. Name the duration. If you cannot, you are not yet doing gochara. You are naming a planet in the sky and hoping the chart will supply a story.
