Synastry and the Kuta System: Compatibility Is More Than a Score

Ashtakuta prints a number out of thirty-six and families have used it as a gate. Numbers feel like verdicts. They are not. A 36-point system should not be turned into a romantic credit score.

The kuta instruments, traditionally, score two Moons — temperament of mind, some notes on health and progeny in the old lists, a folk sense of whether the tides can share a house. That can be one useful glance. It leaves out the rest of two lives: each person's natal seventh, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn; whether anyone actually likes Tuesday evenings; whether the bond is safe.

Synastry — grahas of one chart on the points of another — adds temperature: Moon contacts as recognition, Venus as arrangement of wanting, Mars as heat, Saturn as the slow vow that can be devotion or a locked door. Individual natal promise still sits underneath. A person whose seventh is already a storm does not become simple because the kuta is high.

If a matching system cannot admit exceptions, it is not matching. It is sorting.
