The Difference Between Rest and Escape

One returns you. The other postpones you. Both can look like a sofa.

Escape is a human right in a loud century. It becomes a problem when it is the only climate. Rest restores the one who will walk back into the day. Escape rents a self who does not have to.

Clematis lives elsewhere. Honeysuckle lives yesterday. Neither is a crime. Both are maps of absence. A series, a scroll, a nap that leaves you meaner — those are clues. A nap that leaves you more able to do the next kind thing is rest.

Ask, after: did I come back? That is the whole test.

You do not need to optimise the distinction into a spreadsheet. You need one honest evening a week that is rest on purpose.
